Travel Shot: Eiffel Tower in Paris, France

Happy Birthday Eiffel Tower

Normally we try to bring you exotic and lesser known parts of the world with our daily travel shots, but since this is an important day in the history of travel, we figured it was fitting to make an exception this one time.

That is because on March 31, 1889, the Eiffel Tower officially opened to the public in Paris, France. Fast forward 121 years later and this 19th century iron lattice tower is now one of the most recognized attractions on the planet.

Since opening, more than 200,000,000 people have made their way through the tower, easily making it the world’s most-visited paid attraction year after year.

Situated on the Champ de Mars in the City of Light, the Eiffel Tower stands 1, 063 feet tall and was the world’s tallest structure from its completion until 1930 when the Chrysler Building in New York City knocked it off the top spot.
