Miami is a beautiful place to spend a long weekend

The summer is winding down, schools are throwing open their doors, but there’s still time to pack those bags and get out of town for Labor Day weekend. Haven’t booked a trip out of town yet? Don’t fret, there are plenty of cheap flights to whisk you away one last time.

No matter where in the country you are, there are some great places to hit up for the last goodbye to summer. Not quite sure where to head this Labor Day? Here are five of our top picks:

Las Vegas: With the majority of the year consisiting of blue skies and sun, heading to Las Vegas for three days is almost a sure bet you will run into good weather. Hot, yes, but, still good. Nothing is held back during Labor Day Weekend in Vegas. The town rolls out the red carpet for its visitors and offers everything from star-studded nightclub parties to chill pool events, concerts and more. If you’re looking for a low-key weekend, Las Vegas can accommodate that as well. There are plenty of pools to soak up the sun, restaurants to indulge in delicious cuisine and rooms offering all of the comforts of home, and more.

Must-do: Visit the world famous Fountains of Bellagio at night.

Miami: Grab a beach bag and fly into this gorgeous city on the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you want to party and shop in South Beach, relax poolside, or swim in the blue waters, Miami is a perfect three-day weekend spot. Check out the art deco architecture, dine on fresh seafood and unwind listening to the sounds of the ocean hit the sand. For animal-lovers, there are plenty of options for checking them out in their natural habitat – including a stop in the Everglades, or visits to the Seaquarium or Monkey Jungle.

Must-do: Visit Little Havana for some authentic Cuban.

New York City: The Big Apple is the perfect place for some serious city time. Grab a pair of sneakers and take a stroll through Central Park, or hit the trendy neighborhoods for some shopping and exploration. There is plenty to do in this city, from wandering the Metropolitan Museum of Art to heading up to the top of the Empire State Building, to paying your respects at Ground Zero … and everything in between.

Must-do: Eat the pizza. There may be long lines, but Grimaldi’s serves up some of the best pie in town.

Zion National Park, Utah: Get in touch with nature on a three-day weekend to this beautiful national park. With the cooler temps, the hikes, which range from easy to very challenging, are simply stunning. Be sure to pack sturdy hiking shoes, a bathing suit (in case you want to do the Virgin River walk) and batteries for the camera. The striking red rocks against the blue sky make for some great photographs. You can stay in the park, or outside at one of the adorable inns or ranches.

Must-do: Hit the Canyon Overlook Trail just before sunset. This one-mile, moderate hike, takes you to a beautiful point to look down on the Lower Zion Canyon.

Catalina Island, California: This 76 mile island off the coast of Southern California has got it all: great dining, gorgeous coastlines, wildlife, fishing, museums, shopping, and more. Zip line through the canyons  down to the beach, or go and search for sea lions and dolphins. Enjoy palm-lined streets, the fresh salt air of the Pacific Ocean and quaint island charm. There’s even snorkeling and diving for water-lovers.

Must-do: Rent a kayak to explore on your own. There are plenty of little hidden enclaves perfect for a picnic.
