“It’s Totally East London”

Hackney Homemade Food is London’s newest open air food market. It launched this month in the East London borough of ever happening Hackney and is market to be dedicated to food and drink in this up and coming area.

The weekly Saturday market is totally East London – a contemporary blend of old school English fare and hipster foodie pop up – and features a delectably curated selection of artisan producers selling breads, cakes, cheeses, meat, game, fruit and veg, chutneys and pickles placed alongside street food stalls offering everything from homemade sausages and salt beef burgers to Japanese katsu curry and quesadillas. The market’s emphasis – whether the vendor is selling a connoisseur’s assortment of cheeses from across Europe, apples from his own orchard, handmade cannoli based upon an old family recipe, quesadillas made on-the-spot or game sourced from the English countryside – is on local traders, locally sourced products, homemade food and freshly made snacks and meals.

Following a successful inaugural market day of February 18th, Hackney Homemade Food is now to be held every Saturday from 11 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon and is located within the grounds of St John at Hackney church, which dates back to at least the 13th century. This historic churchyard offers reason enough to pay a visit to the area the next time you’ve got a flight to London. It is also very conveniently situated just across the street from the well-connected Hackney Central London Overground station and is close to a range of shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues near the station and along bustling Mare Street.

Hackney Homemade Food will embrace East London’s creative side as well, with regular art installations and community projects set to complement the food offering. Another regular highlight will be an al fresco teashop, which is to be run by Haggerston Tearooms and will feature a large selection of loose leaf teas and herbal infusions, plus the chance to make your own blend. There will also be plenty of seats dotted around so that customers can kick back, relax and enjoy a bite to eat from one of the stalls rather than rush home with their shopping.

St John at Hackney Church is located at Lower Clapton Road, E5 0PD. More details about the Hackney Homemade Food market can be found on online at
