Update (12:30pm EDT): Spirit Airlines has canceled all flights through Thursday, adding
another day of cancellations as a result of a
pilots’ union strike that started last Saturday.
Original post (9:40am EDT): Spirit Airlines, a discount carrier, will continue talks with pilots in hopes to get passengers flying again. Federal mediators plan to meet with both sides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to begin contract negotiations. Pilots are requesting higher pay.
As a result of the strike, thousands of air travelers have been stranded and forced to dish out money for expensive alternative flights with other airlines. This began on Saturday when the strike began. Spirit is working with all customers to adjust their flights and give them refunds.
Spirit now says it will not be resuming flights until Thursday, at the earliest.
