South African Airways see massive increase with online searches


Experian Hitwise, the leading online competitive intelligence service, revealed Tuesday that the brand benefiting most from its sponsorship with FIFA World Cup is South African Airways.


Between June 5 and June 12, UK Internet searches increased by a whopping 129.2 percent for the South African Airways brand (one of the South African team’s official sponsors).


“The massive spike in searches for South African Airways illustrates the appetite for last minute travel to watch the World Cup. There has also been an 85 percent increase in searches for flights to South Africa over the last couple of weeks,” commented Robin Goad, Director of Research at Experian Hitwise. “


Other companies that have enjoyed a search engine surge due to World Cup craziness include four beer companies. Heineken came in second with searches up 75 percent, Carlsberg and Corona tied for third with a 50 percent jump and Budweiser rounded out the top five with a 33 percent boost.
