Five Tips to Affordable London CheapOair Staff April 11, 2012 Interests These Tips Will Help You See Major Tourist Attractions The flights make a huge difference: Flights to across the pond can get expensive – but they don’t have to be. Look for cheap tickets to London on CheapOair (I’ve always had great luck with this destination), and save some serious money up front. This could wind up being your biggest savings, and it will give you a lot of financial flexibility when you hit the ground at Heathrow. Be smart about your hotel: Invest some time in picking the right hotel; it’s another way to magnify your savings when traveling to London. The major chains tend to be extremely expensive in London, and some neighborhoods can get pricey, as well. I’ve always had good luck at the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London, on Baker Street (of course!). The rooms tend to be inexpensive, and the hotel is convenient to the subway and most of the city. Eat well, pay less: There is no shortage of upscale restaurants in London, and it’s easy to spend a fortune. If you want to eat something interesting – and a lot of it – without breaking the bank, head over to the Clerkenwell neighborhood and settle in at Giant Robot. I showed up ready to eat one of the restaurant’s many burgers until I found my true culinary love … meatballs! Go with veal meatballs in porcini cream, parmesan and tarragon sauce (that’s what I did). The meatballs are served on mashed potatoes, an experience new to me and one I’m likely to repeat. Walk the City: All of London is a living, breathing museum. Head down to the City of London and stroll around for a while. You’ll get a perspective on the town that isn’t available out in Mayfair or the other surrounding neighborhoods. Step into one of the pubs frequented by the after-work crowd to hang with the locals. Shop local: While you’re in the City, cross the Thames and head over to Borough Market. It’s a great place for an excellent grilled cheese sandwich, not to mention the chance to peruse a large and lively farmer’s market. If you get a chance, pick up a bottle of white port for me while you’re there! People in the San Francisco area can get more for their money using these tips and our travel deal of the day!
