Although you typically think of destinations in the west or northeast, such as Colorado or Vermont, if you want a little warmer weather, you can still enjoy skiing in the south. We’ve put together a few destinations in the south where you can ski this winter. Beech Mountain, North Carolina: North Carolina probably isn’t what you first think of when it comes to winter resorts, but it actually has a lot to choose from. Beech Mountain is one of the most popular ski destinations in North Carolina, as it’s the highest town on the east coast at over 5,500 feet. It’s both a major ski and snowboard destinations with many nearby ski lodges and cabins for enthusiasts. Gatlinburg, Tennessee: Gatlinburg is one of the bigger ski destinations in the south. It’s first, a family-friendly destination, and secondly a ski town. There are a couple different ski slopes nearby for both skiers and snowboarders. For those that aren’t into the typical ski resort, this Tennessee town has plenty to see and do. Beckley, West Virginia: Beckley is one of your best bets for skiing in the south, mainly because West Virginia is barely considered a southern state. You’ve got the best chance of enjoying fresh snow in Beckley. Winterplace is the premier ski slopes in Beckley, featuring many slopes for skiers and snowboarders, as well as a snow tubing park. Wintergreen, Virginia: Wintergreen is truly a ski town, as the town is so small, you won’t be doing much else there. Wintergreen Resort is a mountaintop resort, featuring all the amenities you would need, including a full-service spa and several dining options. This Virginia resort includes a 10-lane snow tubing hill, and 26 different trails for skiing and snowboarding. Sapphire Valley, North Carolina: Sapphire Valley is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the North Carolina Mountains, near Cashiers and Highlands. These are popular destinations for winter travelers for the small town feel and the many activities they offer during the holidays. The resort is much smaller than most ski resorts, but also features an area for people who want to go tubing.
