Myanmar hit by earthquake
A 6.8 earthquake rocked Myanmar Thursday evening near the borders of Laos and Thailand. People felt tremors as far away as Bangkok, which is 480 miles south of Myanmar.
So far Thai television is reporting little damage and since the earthquake appeared to have had far inland, there is no fear of any tsunami aftermath similar to what happened in Japan.
One death has been reported, as a 55-year-old woman died after a wall in her home collapsed in her house while she was asleep. According to the New York Times, the United States Geological Survey said the quake was six miles deep.
That means damage might have occured to nearby buildings.About 30-minutes later a4.8 magnitude earthquake was reported in the same area.
