Continental Airlines is requesting an exemption to tarmac rule
In what is not surprising news, Continental Airlines is now throwing its name into the mix of various carriers asking for an exemption to the new tarmac rule.
Going into effect April 29, the tarmac delay rule will fine airlines up to $27, 500 per passenger when a plane is left stranded on the runway for more than three hours.
It was just last week that Delta and JetBlue asked to be excused, American quickly followed this past Tuesday.
The reason for the requests is that JFK’s major runway is undergoing major construction and will not be usable until July.
Some airlines have hinted that if they do not get the exemption, they will cancel flights instead of letting them sit for an extended period of time in order to not get fined.
