Virgin America finally landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday, a move that has American Airlines and other carriers fighting to retain their Chicago travelers.
This week, American began giving away “surprise gifts” on one flight each day on its Chicago-LA and Chicago-San Francisco routes. Gifts include discounts, vouchers, reward miles, and Admirals Club passes. Earlier this month, the airline also began offering double AAdvantage miles on both routes in an attempt to ensure customer loyalty.
American Airlines currently offers 10 round-trip flights between Chicago and LA and six between Chicago and San Francisco.
Virgin America kicked off its Chicago service yesterday by offering two round trips between Chicago and Los Angeles and three between Chicago and San Francisco.
