AA Gets Creative to Save on Fuel
In the face of rising fuel costs, American Airlines has come up with new ways to save money and fuel.
The airline is converting its 19,000 drink carts to lighter, 12-pound models. AA also purchased more tugs that can tow the planes from terminals to hangars to reduce fuel use.
Other changes include a new coating on the outer edge of the plane to improve airflow. They’re also removing seat back phones and their weighty wiring. American is also installing lighter seats, bins, and TV monitors on board.
The alterations are part of the airline’s Fuel Smart program.
AA predicts its cost-saving ways will add up to more than $370 million.
