Aeromexico says it plans to invest nearly $1 billion to purchase 25 planes over the next two years.
Grupo Aeromexico chairman Jose Luis Barraza said the funds will allow the airline to bolster plans for rapid growth in the coming years.
The 25 new planes will allow the carrier to increase daily domestic and international flights from 600 to 750 by 2012. Aeromexico, Mexico’s largest airline, provided service to 11.6 million passengers in 2010.
Officials hope to eclipse the 13 million mark this year with new routes available from Mexico to major cities in Latin and South America, including Caracas, Panama City, and Guatemala City.
