The “Windy City” is a major hub of science and art. In fact, a number of museums in the Chicago metropolitan area rank amongst the finest in the world. So if you’re planning a trip and looking at flights to Chicago, be sure to include at least one museum in your schedule.
The Field Museum of Natural History
The Field Museum of Natural History campus is located North of Soldier Field. It contains a variable plethora of ancient objects, dinosaur displays, and one-of-a-kind collections. Originally established after the 1893 World Columbia Exposition, the museum is dedicated to wonders of nature, diversity, and cultural awareness.
Museum of Science and Industry
Situated on the South Side of Chicago, this expansive museum has only been in operation since 1993. The Museum of Science and Industry wishes to inspire visitors with how science, industry, and technology directly touch their lives. Exhibits feature everything from an actual German WWII submarine to a functional coal mine elevator. Travelers of all ages who enjoy “hands on” displays will especially appreciate time spent here.
The Shedd Aquarium
This world-class Chicago aquarium has made its mark with exhibits that feature the unique life forms found in our oceans, rivers, and local waterways. Displays examine vastly different bodies of water like nearby lakes and the mighty Amazon. An Oceanarium allows guests to observe sea life in their natural habitat. As with all of the exhibitions at The Shedd Aquarium, visitors come away with the importance of respect, preservation, and conservation.
