Regarded as the salmon capital of the world, Ketchikan is the south-easternmost city in Alaska, US. It is set along hillsides near a waterfront on a heavily forested island, and is a major port along Inside Passage- a superb network of waterways that is best known for its salmon fish, natural scenery and the Alaskan Native culture. Lying close to it are forests, bays and several small islands that together make kayaking and sightseeing a fun. Ketchikan was an epicenter of Native Alaskan cultures until 1885 and has the world's largest collection of standing totem poles made by them.

Places of Interest in Ketchikan
Ketchikan is situated at the meeting place of three Native Alaskan cultures (Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian) and they are all hallmarked by totem poles of different types. The Totem Bight State Historical Park is a 33-acre state park in Ketchikan that has a collection of totem poles and a replica of a traditional chieftain's house called Clan House. The latter is made of Western Red Cedar wood and has a stylish facade and an oval entrance that leads to a square chamber inside. Also of note is a breathtaking view of the ocean and Alaska mainland from the park.
Totem Heritage Center
Ketchikans star attraction, the Totem Heritage Center has one of the world's largest collections of unrestored 19th century totem poles. This small three-room museum is home to 33 totem poles (16 of them are in permanent display), exhibits and photographs related to Native American culture. You would be stunned to see its five, more than a hundred years old standing totem poles and some assorted artifacts like baskets, masks, regalia and carvings made by local inhabitants.
Creek Street
The Creek Street Ketchikan is home to a quieter class of old wooden houses built on an antique boardwalk on wooden pilings over Ketchikan Creek, hallmarked by a delightful historic charm. Apart from its picturesque beauty, it also entices visitors with some tantalizing shopping and dining facilities, and a red trestle bridge called the Stedman Bridge that offers a mesmerizing birds eye view of the city around.
