Waikiki is a district of the city of Honolulu. Once the leisure place of Hawaiian royalty in the 19th century, it is now known for its crescent shaped beach. The historical lagoon harbor of Pearl Harbor is located less than 10 miles away from Honolulu. It is the most significant reminder of US’s direct entry into the Second World War. The ill-famed Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 was carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy airplanes and submarines on the US air base and leading to the loss of most of the American sailors and marines on board.
