Explore Denver

Denver is the capital and most populous municipality of the US state of Colorado. It is scenically located in South Platte River Valley near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city has a distinguished pioneer history and the best way to appreciate it is by visiting museums like Black American West Museum & Heritage Center and Byers-Evans House Museum. The former is housed in the home of the state’s first Black woman doctor (Dr. Justina Ford) while the latter is a late-19th century house of the publisher of Colorado’s oldest newspaper- Rocky Mountain News.

Things to do in Denver

Black American West Museum & Heritage Centre

Black American West Museum & Heritage Centre is a small but worthwhile museum that offers an insightful overview of the migration of African Americans to the US and their contributions during the Pioneer era. An exhibit here deals with a (now non-existent) African American settlement that once flourished in northern Colorado.

Byers-Evans House Museum

The Byers–Evans House Museum is essentially a historic house museum in Denver. This late-19th century Italianate house was built by William Byers, who was the publisher of Colorado’s oldest newspaper- Rocky Mountain News. The museum dons a look of the 1910s from the insides and holds most of the original furniture and glassware of its subsequent buyer.

Molly Brown House Museum (or the House of Lions)

The Molly Brown House Museum was the residence of Titanic survivor and social activist, Margaret Brown (or ‘the Unsinkable Molly Brown’). Built in 1880s, this house is a stellar mix of many prevalent period architectural styles, and features many exhibits related to her and the city. This house was bought and sold during two nationwide financial catastrophes over a space of 38 years.

Best Time to Fly to Denver

The best times to fly to Denver are the summer and autumn season that run from June to August and September to October respectively. The city is immersed in its cultural festivals like A Taste of Colorado, Oktoberfest on Larimer Square and The Great American Beer Festival during this time of the year.
