Things to do in Hyderabad


Golkonda (meaning a round hill) or Golla konda (meaning ‘Shepherd’s Hill’) is a citadel and fort that used to serve as the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty (1518–1687 AD). It is situated about 11 kilometers away from Hyderabad. Golkonda is built as a sum of four distinct forts with a 10 km long outer wall, whose outermost enclosure leads one to the ‘Fateh Darwaza’ (or the Victory Gate) that features a superb example of 17th century acoustic engineering. When someone claps at the entrance (Victory Gate), the voice reverberates and is audible from almost a kilometer away.

Nehru Zoological Park

Named after India’s first Prime Minister Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad was established in October 1959. It is spread across 380 acres and consists of nearly 1100 organisms across 100 species, a list that includes Indian rhino, Asiatic lion, Bengal tiger, python and birds. It is flanked by a 600-acre Mir Alam Tank whose embankment is home to several migratory birds.

Snow World

Snow World was once India's first and world’s biggest snow amusement park. It is located in Hyderabad and is spread across nearly 2 acres. It was made by spreading multiple layers of about 200 tons of artificial snow as flooring to avoid seepage or melting. It is a daily practice to scrap its top layer to replace it with an additional 2-3 tons of freshly prepared and filtered artificial snow. Touted as the first of its kind in any show theme park, the Snow World also showers a round of artificial snowfall for ten minutes per hour on its visitors.

The lean season starts in summers from April to July and is a good time to avail cheaper flight and accommodations.
