Because only half of the group need to travel differently, it took several calls to Iberia Airlines directly and because of the time difference, Nicko coordinated and helped me over a couple of days. Toledo is a lakeside city and the county seat of Lucas County in Ohio, United States. Situated along Lake Eerie, this stunning American city is a major producer of auto parts and glass, and has an extensive backdrop of cultural and recreational heritage. Toledo should top the list for your weekend destination this month because of its superfluous offerings across all sectors of tourists attractions- be it sightseeing, history, science or flora and fauna. Some of its impossible-to-miss highlights include the Toledo Zoo, the Botanical Garden, the Toledo Museum of Art, the historic West End (for its old Victorian homes) and the Toledo Metroparks system (it has over 1 acres of land and is home to the University/Parks Bicycle Trail).
Toledo Zoo in Toledo has been home to the first hippoquarium (and the first zoo where the Kihansi spray toad was displayed in the city. It is also home to a number of intriguing exhibits like Africa! (has artificial termite mounds), aquarium (with a touch tank where various stingrays and small sharks are kept), the Arctic Encounter (it houses wolves, gray and harbor seals and polar bears). Also of note here is the Museum of Science which is segregated into two sub-exhibits, one is reserved for bugs and the other for amphibians.
The Toledo Museum of Art Housed inside a hundred year old building of Greek Revival architecture, the Toledo Museum of Art is an internationally known art museum in the city. It is home to more than 3 objects made glass art and numerous artworks of American and European Art related to 19th and 2th centuries. You would also find a notable collection of Renaissance, Greek, Asian, Roman and Egyptian artworks here- central to which is a 17th century masterpiece called The Crowning of Saint Catherine by Peter Paul Rubens.
The Metroparks of the Toledo Area The Metroparks of the Toledo Area is home to twelve parks in the city that run for over 1 acres and contain nearly a third of the rare plant species in Ohio. These parks can be explored for three bicycle trails, exploring the local flora and fauna, or to attend some programs relating to local history and culture.
