Sitting on the western banks of the Mississippi River, St. Louis is often heralded as the nations starting point for Westward Expansion; the Gateway Arch serves as a tribute to the United States lofty ambitions. This sprawling Midwestern city has a big personality and lots to offer the adventurous traveler. Anheuser-Busch has a big presence in St. Louis, right down to the Busch Stadium, home to the St. Louis Cardinals. Of course, you should also take a free tour at the Anheuser-Busch factory, where youll learn about the history of Budweiser, see its iconic Clydesdales and get free beer. There are plenty of diversions for the kids, too, from the acclaimed City Museum to the renowned St. Louis Museum to the fun-filled Magic House.
City Museum
City Museum is less like a typical museum and more like a giant playground, with tunnels and slides and all kinds of features made of reclaimed objects. Housed in a 6,-square-foot building, City Museum also has a 1-story slide, an old-school rooftop ferris wheel and a huge pencil weighing more than 21, pounds.
Missouri Botanical Garden
The celebrated Missouri Botanical Garden is a great way to experience some of the prettiest parts of nature. The range of attractions include a large Japanese garden and a conservatory in a geodesic dome. Seasonal events include an orchid show in the spring, weekly outdoor concerts in summer, and nightly events in winter.
Gateway Arch
From above or below, the Gateway Arch is a thing of beauty. Erected in 1965 and standing at 63 feet, it is the largest arch in the world. Visitors can buy tickets to take a small elevator up to the narrow viewing deck at the top, which overlooks the Mississippi River on one side and the rest of the city on the other.
Toasted Ravioli
Often hailed as the states main contribution to the American culinary identity, toasted ravioli is a must-try in St. Louis. These crispy bites can be filled with meat, cheese, vegetables or all of the above then topped with grated cheese and served with a side of marinara for dipping.
Vietnamese
St. Louis has one of the largest Vietnamese populations in the Midwest, so its the perfect place to get your fix of pho, banh mi, Vietnamese iced coffee and more. The citys heaviest hitters are Mai Lee and Pho Grand, each racking up lots of positive reviews and tons of satisfied customers.
Pork Steak
You can get it year-round at restaurants, but summertime is the undisputed best season to indulge in a pork steak slathered in sauce. These slabs of meat should be grilled and smoked to tender perfection, and you can get them at places such as Smoki Os and Gamlin Whiskey House.

With three locations around the city, International Tap House offers plenty of ways for you to indulge in a cold one. iTap boasts the largest selection of beers in St. Louis, as well as wines, ciders and gluten-free beers. The bar doesnt serve food, so bring your own or order delivery.

It might be a strange concept to grasp, but once you settle in at HandleBars bicycle-themed bar serving Russian food (and pizza, among other things), youll understand what makes this relative newcomer such a popular spot. Stop by for one of their frequent special events and get groovy to the DJs eclectic tunes.

A seven-story boutique hotel, Moonrise has a space-themed rooftop bar and venue that are perfect for summer nights. The Rooftop Terrace Bar has spectacular views of the city skyline and arch, all punctuated by a big spinning moon sculpture, while the New Moon Room is a plush indoor lounge space.
