The capital city of the West African country of Liberia, Monrovia is located on the Atlantic Coast at Cape Mesurado. The city is the cultural, financial, and political hub of the country. The Saint Paul River flows in the north of the city and creates the northern boundary of the Bushroad Island, which can be accessed by crossing the 'New Bridge' from the downtown Monrovia. The tourist attractions in the city include the impressive Liberia National Museum, spectacular Masonic Temple, and historic National Hall. Though there are no hordes of tourist attractions, the city is worth exploring in the vacation of a day or two.
Liberia National Museum
Located in a former legislature building, Liberia National Museum is an excellent place to visit for history lovers. The collection of the museum was depleted during the war years in Liberia, however, now, after the renovations, the museum features photo and art exhibitions as well as historical and ethnic exhibits. The collection here also includes founding father Jenkin Robert's dining table, which was a gift from England's Queen Victoria.
Masonic Temple
One of the oldest buildings in the city, Masonic Temple was built around the time when the former ex-Caribbean slaves arrived here. The temple has an immense historical importance and during the civil war in Liberia, this temple was a refugee center.
National Hall
One of the most significant buildings in Monrovia, National Hall is the place where the presidents of Liberia are sworn. The building is also a home to several copies of the Declaration of Independence. National Hall is also the burial site of former long time president William Tubman.
