Because only half of the group need to travel differently, it took several calls to Iberia Airlines directly and because of the time difference, Nicko coordinated and helped me over a couple of days. Throughout the experience, he explained what he was doing and why he needs to put me on hold and why he needs to call me back the following day, He was very knowledgeable, professional and empathetic to my predicament. Implying modest in Spanish, the American city of Modesto is the county seat and largest city of Stanislaus County in California. Typical of its county that ranks among the states top ten for its extensive farm produce, Modesto is a city that assumes different colors and flavors with regards to its agricultural production (especially during the harvest season from May to November). It is scenically surrounded by rich farmlands and had provided powdered milk and eggs to the US Army during the Second World War. It is home to the worlds largest privately owned winery (Gallo Family Winery) and the worlds largest wine bottle manufacturing company (Gallo Glass Company). Modesto is not at all modest when it comes to adventure sports (like river rafting, hiking or jet skiing) or an avid music scene. The latter can be easily evinced from X-Fest, a famous music festival featuring the world's largest disco and several bands.
The city's only original Victorian home, the McHenry Mansion is a 19th century house in Modesto. Its architecture is a rather unusual mix of Victorian and Italianate styles. It was opened to the public in 1983 and has been a museum housing 19th and 2th century household furnishings and related antiques. You can also visit it for a number of events like Christmas, Fourth of July celebration, Candlelight Tours and the Dickens Faire.
Gallo Center for the Arts
Gallo Center for the Arts is a performing arts center in Modesto that features 2 theaters, a 12 seat Rogers Theater and a smaller 4 seat Foster Family Theater that together host famous local companies like Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Central West Ballet and Townsend Opera Players. It has been visited by several artists like Bill Cosby, Tony Bennett, Dana Carvey and George Lopez.
Lucas Plaza Statue
George Walton Lucas, Jr. is an American filmmaker who has produced the Star Wars and Indiana Jones blockbusters. The Lucas Plaza Statue is a bronze statue that depicts a scene from one of his movies, American Graffiti, and represents a teenage boy and girl sitting near a car. This movie was released in 1973 and was an instant hit among the masses. Buoyed by its success, Lucas went on to produce his iconic masterpieces- Star Wars and Indiana Jones series.
