Longview is a city in the Piney Woods region of Texas. Its queer name springs from an exclamation what a long view made by a land surveyor with regards to its vast sprawling landscape in 1871. Held every year in July and hailed as the longest running hot-air balloon event in Texas, Great Texas Balloon Race is an indistinguishable part of the citys identity. It was first organized in 1978 and has now graduated to become a top-end sporting event involving some of the very best fliers from across the world. Of special note are the Balloon Glows on Friday and Saturday nights that pull and fascinate a large number of crowds through a stellar display of colorfully dotted sky.
Longview Museum of Fine Arts' Permanent Collection Longview Museum of Fine Arts' is home to more than 4 pieces of drawings, intaglio, paintings, photographs, pottery, lithographs, serigraphs, sculpture, woodcuts, etchings and collages. This is one of the most famous art galleries in the state of Texas and it prides itself in heralding the classical works of regional artists.
Gregg County Historical Museum The Gregg County Historical Museum is housed inside a 1-years old Classical Revival building edifice known as the Everett Building and consists of much history inside. It is the touchdown point to witness some of the most defining chapters of East Texan history, agriculture, communications and noted military pursuits. Central to its grace is an enthralling depiction of the 1894 Dalton Gang Robbery and more than 3 Caddo Indian artifacts that are neatly flanked by displays of Spanish explorations, the dawn of oil boom and the impact of Second World War on US.
