Places of Interest in Horta
The city of Horta is located in the Azorean island of Faial, Portugal. During the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, Horta was a significant anchorage for galleons and caravels. At present, the city provides marina for yachts. Within this city are several places of interest which attract tourists from every corner. Horta Museum is an ideal place to learn about the island culture. Scrimshaw Museum and Peter’s Cafe Sport is equally famous amongst sailors, tourists, and natives. The city is home to the active volcano, Capelinhos Volcano, which last erupted in the 1950s. Horta Museum
The Horta Museum is housed within the old Jesuitical College. Peter's is a popular cafe among sailors, natives, and tourists. Food served at the cafe is delicious, specially cakes. The cafe houses a small museum, which exhibits artifacts depicting the whaling tradition during the 19th and 20th century. The collection in the museum includes carved whale bone ornaments.
Faial Botanical Garden
The Faial Botanical Garden is located on the outskirts of Horta. Here, one can see the unique plants of the Azores region which have been labeled and kept in one place.
