Chinas former national capital, Chengdu is now the provincial capital and largest city of Sichuan Province. It is a prominent axis of the Orient nations economy, commerce and culture and is nicknamed the Abundant Land because of its fertile soil, favorable climate and the worlds oldest existing irrigation system (Dujiangyan Irrigation System). You should visit this city for its stunning riverside beauty along Jin River and its giant pandas- the latter being one of rarest animal species in the world, and are considered a national treasure in China. You should visit this city especially during the first month of Chinese Lunar Calendar when it hosts Chinese New Year celebrations and the Lantern Festival.

Out of an estimated 15 pandas that are found in China, 8% are found in Sichuan Province alone. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, in Chengdu, is the worlds only breeding center of pandas (and some other rare animal species) that is located in a metropolitan city. It is home to about 6 giant pandas besides some red pandas and a colony of black-necked cranes.
Mount Qingcheng
Mount Qingcheng is a beautiful 36 peak mountain with an extensive and well-kept network of steps and pathways. Located less than 25 miles from Chengdu, it is one of the focal points of Taoist reverence in the country and is home to some magnificent temples and pagodas. It is also a popular place to go hiking or to simply sit amidst some tranquil equilibrium of the streams and forests.
Du Fu Thatched Cottage
Considered Chinas answer to Shakespeare, Du Fu (712-77 AD) was a gifted poet who lived during the Tang Dynasty in China. He had moved to Chengdu and built a thatched hut as his residence in 759 AD, and this is where he wrote some of his masterpieces over a period of four years. His former house has now been turned into a 24-acre park and museum that sits amidst a picture-perfect backdrop of trees, bridges, pathways and a stream. It is hallmarked by a grand 16x4 square metres mural painting portraying scenes form Du Fus poems and a memorial hall, study room and kitchen.
