Bucaramanga is the capital of the Santander region of Colombia. This 17th century town is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and some ancient towns. Chicamocha National Park is a Colombian natural park along the Chicamocha Canyon and is located about 30 miles from Bucaramanga. Botanical Garden Eloy Venezuela
The Botanical Garden Eloy Valenzuela comprise of 7.5 hectares of gardens that are home to 3500 species of native plants, palms, mosses and ferns. Also of note here are a small but beautiful pond and a Japanese tea garden. The gardens are rendered all the more beautiful by local flora nad fauna, the latter including some squirrels, butterflies and ducks.
Museo Casa de Bolivar (Museum of the House of Bolivar)
Turned into the Museum of the House of Bolivar, this colonial-era mansion is where the noted Venezuelan military and political leader Simon Bolivar had stayed for about eight weeks in 1828. It is home to wide range of artistic and archaeological artifacts belonging to Guane people like weapons and paintings. Also of note here is a section devoted to the ‘Thousand Day War’, a war that was fought between two political factions in Colombia from 1899 to 1902.
