Because only half of the group need to travel differently, it took several calls to Iberia Airlines directly and because of the time difference, Nicko coordinated and helped me over a couple of days. Bucaramanga is the capital of the Santander region of Colombia. This 17th century town is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and some ancient towns. Bucaramanga is home to a profound cultural heritage and also has a vivid scene of visual arts like painting, sculpture and photography. Travelling to this city would be an obvious choice for those looking to experience paragliding or to touch a part of Colonial-era architecture. If you're willing to travel further south, you would find the municipality of Giron. This 17th century city is home to some magnificent colonial era structures like the Museum of Religious Art, the Basilica of the Lord of Miracles, and the Chapel of Corregidor.
Chicamocha National Park is a Colombian natural park along the Chicamocha Canyon and is located about 3 miles from Bucaramanga. Ahead of enjoying its stunning landscape, you can also take some time out to pursue a wide range of activities like spelunking, bushwalking, camping, fishing, kayaking, rafting and mountain climbing here. Also of note here is a nearly 4 miles long cable car, which is considered one of the longest of its type in the world.
Botanical Garden Eloy Venezuela The Botanical Garden Eloy Valenzuela comprise of 7.5 hectares of gardens that are home to 35 species of native plants, palms, mosses and ferns. Also of note here are a small but beautiful pond and a Japanese tea garden. The gardens are rendered all the more beautiful by local flora nad fauna, the latter including some squirrels, butterflies and ducks.
Museo Casa de Bolivar (Museum of the House of Bolivar) Turned into the Museum of the House of Bolivar, this colonial-era mansion is where the noted Venezuelan military and political leader Simon Bolivar had stayed for about eight weeks in 1828. It is home to wide range of artistic and archaeological artifacts belonging to Guane people like weapons and paintings. Also of note here is a section devoted to the Thousand Day War, a war that was fought between two political factions in Colombia from 1899 to 192.
