Catalina Airport is opened to public, and general aviation aircrafts are allowed to land here on specifying the reason and upon payment of a fee. Catalina Airport is mainly used for general aviation. There are no scheduled passenger flights to or from the airport. Initially, the airport was opened as "Buffalo Springs Airport," in the late 1930s, and scheduled passenger service was briefly provided by United Airlines in DC-3s.
