Bicentennial Memorial

Bicentennial Memorial commemorates 200 years since the arrival of the First Fleet of British convict ships that had arrived at Sydney in 1788. It consists of three courtyards with 14 sculptured bas relief panels each connected with a central courtyard. The first courtyard depicts the era before 1788 AD when Inverell District was inhabited by local tribes and the second courtyard two spans the time duration from 1788 to 1888- that marked the advent and occupation of Australia by white. The third courtyard symbolizes the social and technological changes that have taken place from 1888 to 1988.

Inverell Pioneer Village

Inverell Pioneer Village consists of numerous authentic historic buildings and homes dating back to 1841. Some of the highlights here are Grove Homestead, Keera Station Blacksmith's Shop (that depicts the formative years of blacksmithery, Paddy Pub (built in 1874), Mining Museum (that has a collection of photographs and mining tools from late 19th century) and Rob Roy Hall with the George Devine Photographic and Camera Museum.

National Transport Museum

The National Transport Museum is home to a remarkable collection of over 200 transport-related exhibits. This museum enthralls its visitors with its collection of vintage cars, trucks, fire engines, motorcycles, bicycles, pedal cars and scooters. An impossible to miss attraction here is perhaps the world’s last operational car called 1906 Dayton. One will also find a collection of antique dolls and wedding dresses here.

Goonoowigall State Conservation Area

Goonoowigall State Conservation Area is one of the best national parks in New South Wales. Located 5 kms away from Inverell, it is a hilly country with large granite boulders, gum trees, ironbarks and about 120 species of native flora and fauna. The Goonoowigall State Conservation Area also consists of the Nhunta Karra Kara Track that was established to commemorate the Aboriginal families who made the Goonoowigall area their home until the 1960s.

Festivals and Events

Inverell Agricultural Show (23 February to 26 February 2018)

The three-day long Inverell Agricultural Show will celebrate its 150 years in 2018. One of the most popular local mega events, it comprises several competitions and sub-events like shearing competition, demolition derby, campdraft, and rodeo. Visitors can also visit a stall called ‘The Pavilion’ to see competition entries across many sections like garden produce, needlework, decorated cakes, fine arts and photography. This event would be concluded with a stellar show of fireworks.

Regional Australia Bank Inverell Sapphire City Festival (20 to 29 October 2017)

Spread across ten days of celebration and happiness, the Regional Australia Bank Inverell Sapphire City Festival is home to a bagful of entertainment options for the entire family. Some popular events include Communicator of the Year, Gem and Craft Show, Holy Trinity Race Day, Poet's Breakfast, Inverell's Got Talent and Body Mind and Soul Expo. The festival nears its conclusion with Festival Parade and fades away with carnival rides, the great duck race and the Festival Queen and Princess crowning ceremony, besides a stunning display of fireworks.
