The Kent Plantation House in Alexandria (completed: 1800) is a classical masterpiece of French Colonial architecture that has successfully blended some authentic signatures of Greek Revival and Creole architecture. It is a representation of plantation life in Southern Louisiana during 1795 and 1855. Built on a land granted by the then Spanish king, it is the oldest standing structure in Central Louisiana and one of only two buildings in the city that have survived the burning of 1864 by Union troops that were fleeing after their defeat.The Louisiana History Museum
