Mount Hotham is a mountain in the Victorian Alps in Victoria (Australia). The best time to visit it is the winter or ‘Ski Season’ between June and September, when it is all snow-clad and the temperatures are at freezing cold (-4 to 4 deg C). Another good time to visit here is the summer season from December to March when it is more comfortably placed around 24°C. Hotham Alpine Resort

The Hotham Alpine Resort comprises the second highest resort village on the slopes of Mount Hotham in the Alpine region of Victoria. This resort holds the national record for the highest annual rainfall of any Victorian resort over the past decade. Mount Hotham has a steep and well-groomed tree-lined terrain with nice and easy slopes where novice can learn skiing and snowboarding.

Alpine National Park

Alpine National Park is the largest national park in Victoria. Located about 73 miles away from Mount Hotham, this national park is a part of a national parks’ network in New South Wales that protects the Australian Alps. Alpine National Park consists 10 of the 11 state’s highest mountains and presents a delightful picture of alpine topography, delightful scenery, impressive mountains, rivers, snow forests and open grasslands. During summers, people come here for fishing, bushwalking and four-wheel driving, in winters they come here for winter sports and in spring season, the place is carpeted with wildflowers.

Mount Featherback via Razorback Trail

Mount Featherback is Victoria’s second highest mountain and it is located 7.4 miles away from Mt Hotham via a narrow ridge called Razorback Trail. This track runs through open snow grass, low shrubs and snow gum woodlands all the way through the rocky bluffs of Twin Knobs and Mt Feathertop. Those that climb up Mount Featherback are awarded with a superb panoramic view of the Alps.

Festivals and Events

Spring Cup

The Spring Cup is an annual championship held in September in Mount Hotham. It consists of two skiing events on the slopes and on the green. Participants can take part on the slopes of Mount Hotham on the Race Arena on 23 September and golfing skills down the course the next day.

Cool Summer Festival

Cool Summer Festival at Mt Hotham is a three-day celebration amidst balmy weather and the fragrance of wildflowers in January. This festival is marked by loud music, Rock and Roll and wine. Other attractions here are numerous workshops, helicopter rides, mountain biking, chairlift rides and horse riding and activates for children.

Getting Around in Mount Hotham

Mount Hotham is served by free Village Transport service. Its bus stops are found throughout the village along the Great Alpine Road.
