Blackall Woolscour

The Blackall Woolscour is believed to be the last remaining steam operated wool washing plant in Australia. It was in operation during 1908 and 1978, and now serves a museum that tells a fascinating story of the country’s pioneering past. Blackall Woolscou’s complex consists of the wool washing tanks, drying tanks, a 20-stand shearing shed, large sheep yards, shearer’s quarters, cook house, toilet and shower blocks.

Idalia National Park

Idalia National Park is located about 87 miles away from Blackall in South West Queensland, Australia. It was opened in 1990 by Prince Phillip with a view to conserve a bioregion of mulga trees. This national park is also home to several native species of flora and fauna, some significant Aboriginal heritage sites, ruins of two historic homesteads and campsites.

Jackie Howe Statue

John Robert "Jackie" Howe (1861-1920) was an Australian sheep shearer who had broken the world record for sheep shearing in 1892. His world record was not overhauled until the advent of electric shears in 1950s. The Jackie Howe Statue in Blackall has a plaque that reads, ‘Blade shore 321 sheep in 7 hours 40 minutes at Alice Downs, Blackall On Monday 10th October 1892.’

Black's Palace Sites

Black’s Palace Sites are one of Queensland's most important Aboriginal sites. Some of these sites have artifacts that form the largest complex of Aboriginal artistic drawings known to exist in Central Queensland. Almost 10000 figures usually made as stencils of hands and feet, boomerangs, axes, diagrams of spears, clubs, shields, and reptiles like snakes and lizards have been found till date. However, this site is now not open to public.

The Blackall Heartland Festival

Celebrated every year in October, the Blackall Heartland Festival is a famous event in Blackall that showcases the town’s centuries old sheep and wool heritage. It is marked by a street parade, some regional meat and woolen products, a Barbecue Cook Off and fun workshops that involve people of all age groups and is celebrated over a three-day weekend in October. Other attractions here include art and music presentations, heritage tours and a host of interesting activities.

Ewe Beaut Sheep Races

Ewe Beaut Sheep Race is one of the most famous races in Australia. It will be celebrated as a part of Blackall Heartland Festival from 20 to 22 October 2017. It involves a competition of the fastest racing sheep and can thus be best described as one of the woolliest races in the country.
