‘In their Steps’ Historical Tour
Horn Island is located less than 47 miles away from Mabuiag Islands. It is
best known for its ‘In Their Steps’ Historical Tour that takes the visitors

ANZAC Day Ceremony

Celebrated on the nearby Thursday Island (that lies about 43 miles away
from Mabuiag Islands), the ANZAC Day is a national festival celebrated by
both Australia and New Zealand to mark their remembrance of the martyrs of
the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who had laid down their
lives in the World Wars. The celebration of ANZAC Day is marked by several
ceremonies, events and a parade through the town.
Australia Day (26th January)
Australia Day is celebrated to mark the arrival of the First Fleet of
British Ships in New South Wales and the raising of the Flag of Great
Britain at Thursday Island in Australia in 1788. This festival is
celebrated nationwide on 26 January and is marked by a free for all entry
to an event called 'Family Fun Day at the Pool' and giving away of
Australia Day Awards. Other activities that take place here are food
competition and some music and entertainment shows.
