Glen Innes Attractions

Australian Standing Stones

Glen Innes’s numero uno highlight, the Australian Standing Stones commemorates the Celtic people who helped pioneer Australia. This memorial consists 24, 3-meter-high stones arranged in the form of a calendar and they owe their origin to an idea that had emanated in 1988 when 200th anniversary of pioneering was being celebrated. The Australian Standing Stones’s aerial view resembles a Celtic Cross and the Southern Cross. The former denotes that the monument was erected in Christian times and the latter marks the fusion of Celtic civilization.
