championed the cause and creation of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. John
Flynn Place is home to a remarkable range of memorabilia, artifacts,
documents and photographs related to him. This place is inclusive of Flying
Doctor Museum, Art Gallery, Cultural Centre, Outdoor Theatre and the first
plane used by the ‘Flying Doctor’.
Mary Kathleen Memorial Park & Museum
Situated near Cloncurry, Mary Kathleen was once a prosperous uranium mining
town until it was dismantled following export restrictions on mining
contracts in 1982. It is now a ghost town. Mary Kathleen Memorial Park
commemorates the former uranium mining town of Mary Kathleen, while the
museum purchased some administrative buildings like the Police Station,
Police Residence, Town Office and ANZ Bank and some crucial relics and
photographs.
Qantas Hangar
Qantas Hangar is credited with the concept of Australia's national airline
and Cloncurry was where Qantas took the baby steps in 1920. Visitors can
see the original and still operational Qantas Hangar at the aerodrome. This
aerodrome reads ‘Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service’, the
name that eventually became the iconic national aviation brand called

Festivals and Events
Cloncurry 150 Years (15 to 23 September 2017)
Cloncurry will be celebrating 150 years of the discovery of a rich deposit
of copper in Great Australia Mine and the establishment of the first
pastoral run in the Cloncurry district- two pivotal events that changed the
course of local history in Australia since 1867. This event will be
hallmarked by a series of family-centred events and a ball dance.
Curry Merry Muster Festival
Usually celebrated in first week of August every year, the ‘Merry Muster’
is a popular event that serves the thrills and spills of rodeo to Cloncurry
residents since 1954. This event has evolved into a ‘pro-rodeo’ mega event
and is dubbed as Australia’s highest single payout professional rodeo. This
event is also inclusive of a dramatic and colorful street parade and would
be seconded by food stalls and live entertainment. Curry Merry Muster
Festival is concluded with the prize distribution to winner rodeo.
