The museum also flaunts several artifacts dating back to the city’s mining history, central to which is a 42 kg silver nugget and a late 19 th century table centerpiece made of 8.5 kg of pure silver.

Living Desert Reserve

Located a 10-15 minutes ride away from the city is the Living Desert Reserve, known for its remarkable Living Desert Sculptures and a protected biodiversity sanctuary. The sculptures are a glorious sum of 12 sandstone structures that are perched on a hilltop in the center of the reserve. The sanctuary has several colorful arrays of wildflower display and is flanked at some distance by Aboriginal artworks.

Perfect Light Film Festival

The Perfect Light Film Festival celebrates the significance and genre of short films in Broken Hill. It is celebrated every year in December in the city and is started-off by a Film Festival Launch night where some of the best Australian movies are shown. This is followed the next evening by an exclusive show of 12 short films, the best of which earns a prize of 15000 Australian dollars.

The Broken Hill St. Patrick's Race Day is a popular horse race event held annually in March in Broken Hill. This iconic race event that pulls the city together for a week during the event was started by John Toms to better the financial position of local Catholic schools in 1965. This event is also allied with other events like a talent and fashion show, games night, Greyhound Race Meeting and a Pot of Gold Raffle.
