Joplin is the largest city in Jasper County in the US state of Missouri. It is said that lead and zinc were discovered in the Joplin Valley before 1861, and the city consequently experienced a volcanic growth post the Civil War with several railroads being connected to the city. One can still see the reminiscent of those old times with numerous open-pit mines, mine shafts and small hills of ground rock that had resulted from extensive surface and deep mining. You should visit this city for the Grand Falls, which is the highest continuously flowing waterfall in the state. Also of note here are two museums- the Everett J. Ritchie Tri-State Mineral Museum and Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum- that together hold a magnificent collection of collectibles and mineral stones from those bygone times.
The Joplin Museum Complex is your go to point to revisit the strenuous 19th century past of the city as it was being dug up left, right and centre for lead and zinc. The museum is divided mainly into two parts: the Everett J. Ritchie Tri-State Mineral Museum and the Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum. The former is home to a stunning collection of lead and zinc artifacts while the latter is inclusive to Victorian furnishings, a circus room, a room where children are invited in with adult supervision, a 1927 fire engine, and a doll collection.
National Cookie Cutter Historical Museum Of related significance in the same museum complex is the National Cookie Cutter Historical Museum. It has a number of exhibits focusing on a collection of different cutters like advertising cutters, tinsmith's cutters, European cutters and so forth. You can also visit an archive of newsletters, advertising offers and other significant collectibles here.
Grand Falls Grand Falls is the largest continuously flowing natural waterfall in Missouri, and it falls from a height 12 feet down and a width of 163 feet. The waterfall is a star attraction for its picture-perfect beauty and is a surefire hit among selfies lovers.
