Bishkek is the capital and financial axis of Kyrgyz Republic. Situated across a mountainous landscape of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Mountains, this city has come a long way from its embryonic state of a 19th century clay fortress to a home of a pronounced degree of Soviet-era architecture and gardens . You should visit this city to see how beautifully it has captured the essence of its 200 year old history through a magnificent line-up of monuments and cultural institutions. Of special note here are a railway station built in 1946 by the German Prisoners of War and the National Historical Museum. Located at a 30 minutes ride from the city is a popular year round destination for weekend picnickers, hikers, skiers and mountain climbers known as Ala Archa National Park.
