Marinduque is an island province in the Luzon island group of the Philippines. It is nicknamed the Heart of Philippines because it is shaped like a heart and that it lies nearly in the middle (or the heart) of the island nation. There are a number of breathtaking natural attractions situated in or near Marinduque. You would find it hard to resist its picture-perfect beaches, diving sites, caves, waterfalls, hot springs (with medicinal properties), uninhabited islets and even a dormant volcano. As a direct derivative of this superfluous bracket of offerings, it would be awfully tempting to go ahead with camping, spelunking, snorkeling, windsurfing and diving here. You can top this scintillating experience by coming here in March to celebrate a nearly 2 year old and one of the countrys oldest festivals- Moriones festival that celebrates Christs Passion and His Death.
Places of Interest in Marinduque Celebrated during March and April, the Moriones Festival is one of the most famous festivals in Marinduque. This folk-religious festival reenacts the story of Saint Longinus, a commander in Roman Army who was blind from one eye. Legend has it that he punctured Jesus with a spear, and the emanating blood droplets from His body cured the commanders blindness. Marinduques inhabitants celebrate this festival by dressing themselves in colorful Roman attires and wearing painted masks. They roam in the city streets from Holy Monday to Easter Sunday by engaging themselves in theatrics to draw attention.
Mount Malindig Few natural attractions are as royally tempting and fiercely intimidating as volcanoes. Ditto is the case with Mount Malindig, which a large potentially active strato-volcano on the island of Marinduque and is home to a wide range of wild orchids. It is the largest mountain around and offers a glorious panoramic view of the island below. It has three peaks, each of whose base is a mossy and closed canopy forest treks that offer a stunning bracket of climbing and hiking features.
Marinduque Branch Museum, Boac Boac is the capital of the province of Marinduque. The Marinduque Branch Museum is situated in an old Spanish building that once used to host the former Municipal Trial Court of Boac. This museum is best known for its 12 year old collection of ceramics, stoneware jars, pottery vessels and shards. Other highlights here include a magnificent collection of masks, wooden shield, carved wooden animals and fossilized limestone shells that together date back to various periods of local history.
