Noted as the country’s business epicenter, Belize City is more of a great starting point for exploration of the lush landscape than a metropolis destination. As such, the port town has easy access to some of Central America’s best ruins, cays, reefs and wildlife.
Most Impressive Attractions
- Set in crystal-clear turquoise waters, the Hol Chan Reef features wildlife aplenty. Snorkelers and divers marvel at the diversity of marine life, from nurse sharks to sea turtles to stingrays, not to mention the beautiful coral that makes up the habitat.
- Actun Tunichil Muknal provides an experience unlike anything found -- or allowed -- in many other countries: the opportunity to trek, swim and clamber through a narrow yet fascinatingly historic cave. Located 117 kilometers from Belize City, the site is littered with leftover Mayan artifacts and even human skeletons.
