Spirit Airlines (NK) is the only two star airline currently operating in the U.S, its business model is of an ultra low cost airline. It operates chiefly out of the Hollywood International Airport, Fort Lauderdale. Despite its low cost model, Spirit serves 57 domestic and international destinations and has a large fleet of 56 in service aircrafts and a further 129 aircrafts pending delivery. Spirit transitioned to ultra low cost airline model in March '06 discontinuing its business class features . The headquarters of the company is located in Miramar, Florida. To cut costs, the airlines gives its passengers many options like self printing of boarding passes and a free incentive for carrying smaller bags which fit under the seat.
Classes of Service
Following the transition into an ultra low cost carrier, Spirit Airlines discontinued all its luxury seating and classes in favor of an all coach model seating. Here the airline allocates seats to its passengers during check-in. Keeping in mind the wants and requirements of its diverse customer base, the airline offers that its passengers can choose their own seats for a nominal fee. The trademark Big Front Seat option lets the passenger choose a larger more spacious seat with extra leg room at the front of the aircraft, for a fee.
In-flight Amenities
No complimentary services of food and beverages are provided, but in the interest of passenger travelling Spirit Airlines has a very well stocked bar and snack counter aboard the aircraft. The snacks and drinks are nominally priced and serve a large client base catering for most dietary requirements and special needs. Keeping in mind the health of the passengers, Spirit Airlines does not stock or offer any peanut or nut based foods so as to not expose anyone to allergic reactions.
Online Check-in
To avoid hassles and reduce the cost component, the airline urges its clients to check-in using the kiosk or the online option where the boarding passes can also be printed. Even still the passengers who need the counter check-in can come from 24 hours to 1 hour prior to departure time.
