While you may not be able to visit all the cool locations featured in Golden Globe nominated movies\u00a0and shows\u00a0this year (I’m thinking The Martian<\/em>!), there are several contenders for Best Location for a Vacation <\/em>that should feature in your 2016 must-see list. (dim the lights, cue music)<\/p>\n

And the nominees in this category are.<\/p>\n

1.) Sydney, Australia<\/h3>\n

Filmed a mere 20 miles from the city of Sydney<\/a>, Australia, Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em> has already been hailed as one of the greatest action movies of all time! Nominated \u00a0for best Movie Drama, this action packed adventure is heavy on effects and stunts, making it extremely visually appealing to the eye! The same could be said for the awesome Southern land of\u00a0Sydney (nice segue)! Already kicked into top gear for 2016, Sydney is alive with activity, especially during the annual Sydney Festival <\/a>which this year is running from January 7 – 26 (there’s still time to visit!)<\/p>\n

If you loved Mad Max and feel the need for some adventure of your own\u2014make sure to visit Sydney soon. Remember, it’s summer there right now!<\/p>\n

2.) Budapest, Hungary<\/h3>\n

If you prefer something a little more light-hearted, the movie Spy<\/em> has been nominated for Best Comedy or Drama, and could easily also have been nominated for best filming location!<\/p>\n

Tracking the progress of a CIA agent from desk duty to high drama, this comedy caper was primarily filmed on location in stunning Budapest<\/a>, Hungary. This ancient European wonder\u00a0is often referred to as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, boasting magnificent architecture, geothermal springs, the majestic and mighty Danube River, along with many other World Heritage sites. Arts and Festivals clog the city calendar each year, as tourists and locals enjoy the splendor, but Spy wasn’t the only movie filmed here. OK. So we said you couldn’t visit Mars (yet) and not wanting to burst the movies\u00a0bubble, but\u2014The Martian<\/em> was (spoiler alert), not actually filmed on the planet Mars!<\/p>\n

The story of one man’s galactic battle for survival aboard a hostile red planet is nominated in the Best Movie category. The movie has generated a huge amount of interest and was also filmed guess where? Yup – Budapest, Hungary!<\/p>\n

3.) Calgary, Canada<\/h3>\n

Yeeha! This Wild West town grew into a truly cosmopolitan city somewhere between the Canadian Rockies and the Canadian Prairies, but it’s never forgotten it’s roots.<\/p>\n

For a wild ride into a very bleak world, check out The Revenant, <\/em>one of the\u00a0<\/em>nominations in the Best Movie Drama category, (good luck Leo!)\u00a0which filmed in a few locations including Calgary<\/a> in the Canadian Province of Alberta. Allegedly at one stage of filming the crew had to hop over to Argentina to look for snow when Canada got too warm?<\/p>\n

Anyhoo, for a really cool and wild time, Calgary is a great place to visit any time of year\u2014but when you do go, make sure to embrace your inner cowboy or cowgirl by catching some of the action at the famous Calgary Stampede<\/a>!<\/p>\n

4.) Dubrovnik, Croatia<\/h3>\n

Switching to the smaller screen, Game of Thrones<\/em> has once again been nominated in the Best TV Drama category, no doubt in part due to the stunning portrayal of the fictional continent of Westeros.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0mixture of horrifying creatures, sinister plots, and a family of dragons are all made to look even more horrifying, sinister and dragon-like when\u00a0set against the backdrop of \u00a0Dubrovnik<\/a>, Croatia. The city\u00a0walls of Dubrovnik are the filming location for the fictional city of King’s Landing<\/em>, the home of the throne, from the long running show. One of the most popular destinations on the Adriatic\u00a0Sea, Dubrovnik offers stunning\u00a0medieval architecture, marble streets, and a delightful Mediterranean lifestyle. After an episode of Game of Thrones<\/em>, Dubrovnik is sure to be a welcome break!<\/p>\n

5.) New Orleans, Louisiana<\/h3>\n

What could be funnier than the financial crash of 2007-2008 we ask? A\u00a0comedy drama movie focused around the\u00a0financial crash of 2007-2008 of course!\u00a0The Big Short<\/em>\u00a0is not short on nominations with two Best Actor nods\u00a0on the Golden Globe shortlist. This star packed movie was filmed down in New Orleans<\/a>, Louisiana, with a few scenes heading up the coast to be captured in New York City.\u00a0New Orleans, also known as The Big Easy<\/em>, is one of the most recognizable cities in the United States\u2014synonymous with\u00a0Mardi Gras<\/a>, Jazz, Voodoo, Creole cuisine, Bourbon Street and much, much more.<\/p>\n
