If you love to hike, camp, and generally be outside, there is no better place to hit this month than Peru<\/a>. May marks the start of Peru\u2019s dry season, so the weather is absolutely perfect for seeing the South American country\u2019s ancient ruins.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no shortage of things to do in Peru\u2014exploring the Amazon, taking in the beauty of cosmopolitan cities like Lima and Cusco, or checking out the super freaky Nazca Lines\u2014but hiking the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu is a must. It\u2019ll take you about four days to hike the trail, and we recommend you go as part of a guided tour, but there is absolutely no better time to see the Incan Lost City.<\/p>\n Plus, you\u2019ll get to practice your Spanish. Adios<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>\n Hannah Winsten<\/p><\/div>\n The so-called Capital of the South is just lovely this time of year, bless its heart<\/em>, and it\u2019s got a ton of cool things to do.<\/p>\n For history buffs, head on over to Martin Luther King Jr.\u2019s childhood home. You\u2019ll have to book a guided tour ahead of time, so get there early. While you\u2019re waiting for your tour to start, explore the neighborhood\u2014the official MLK memorial is right around the corner, and many of the other houses nearby are historical, complete with accompanying plaques to tell their stories.<\/p>\n Art and movie lovers should check out Swan House<\/a>, a historical old mansion, and the set for President Snow\u2019s home in the blockbuster hit, The Hunger Games<\/em>. If you prefer a scene that\u2019s a little less Hollywood, check out Cabbage Town. Summer time is (nearly) in full swing along the Mediterranean in May, meaning you can check out the Coliseum, the Pantheon, the Vatican, and more, all while basking in the glorious South European sun. Perfect.<\/p>\n Even better, Rome hosts the International Literature Festival<\/a> each year in May\u2014so bookworms, rejoice! Being able to speak Italian is a major advantage when nerding out about literature in Rome, but happily, it\u2019s not a requirement. Who really needs to understand what\u2019s being said when the words sound so pretty anyway, am I right?<\/p>\n Worst case scenario, just eat a whole lot of pizza and gelato. Plus, temperatures are very moderate\u2014think a light sweater, if that!\u2014so you won\u2019t be enduring summertime sweat any sooner than you have to. Awesome!<\/p>\n Start your trip with a climb up Coit Tower, where you can get the best view of the city, the bay, and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Often obscured by mist, the dryness of May will (hopefully) give you the gift of an unobstructed view from the top of this historical tower.<\/p>\n From there, check out Fisherman\u2019s Wharf, the Haight, and of course, Delores Park. Where else can you see the Painted Ladies, made famous by their cameo in Full House<\/em>? For dinner, head over to Chinatown. The Shanghai dumplings are to die for (although, admittedly, they might be better in actual Shanghai). Pack your summer clothes and get ready for an epic Shanghai adventure.<\/p>\n Start out at The Bund, Shanghai\u2019s picturesque waterfront, where you\u2019ll get all the classic skyline photo opportunities. Say cheese!<\/p>\n From there, you can explore Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town that\u2019s been called the \u201cVenice of China,\u201d before you head over to the Jade Buddha Temple, one of Shanghai\u2019s most popular and revered landmarks.<\/p>\n When you\u2019ve had your fill of traditional site seeing, swing by Yuyuan Garden, the city\u2019s most beloved green space. The park dates back to the 16th<\/sup> century, and features tons of beautiful statues, ornate bridges, and colorful pagodas.<\/p>\n Need more convincing to jet off to Shanghai<\/a>? If nothing else, you can let us know if the Shanghai dumplings are, in fact, better than the ones in San Francisco. Enquiring minds want to know.
