A ban on bottles was originally set to go into effect in January of 2011 but that plan was eventually shelved.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the time, some accused Coca Cola of pressuring the <strong>National Parks Service<\/strong> to re-think the ban. Coke is a major supporter of the National Parks and also sells Dasani water at many parks across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But a new directive released today from the NPS will allow individual parks to ban plastic bottles in 2012 as long as a regional director signs off on an impact analysis of the move.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to officials, plastic bottles make up 30% of the waste found at the <strong>Grand Canyon<\/strong> and is the single largest source of trash at the site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; A ban on plastic bottles may soon be in place at the Grand Canyon &nbsp; A proposed ban on plastic bottles at the Grand Canyon is back on track, according to a report in USA Today.
