Standing over 140 feet tall, the Senator wowed visitors arriving on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheapoair.com\/flights\/cheap-flights-to-florida-fl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flights to Florida<\/a><\/strong> with its sheer size and nearly unfathomable age. The ancient tree sprouted somewhere around the time of Moses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So what finally felled the tree that stood the test of time for so long? Investigators believe an undetected fire smoldered inside of the tree after a lightning strike last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the tragedy, there is a bit of a silver lining to this story. Firefighters were able to save a nearby Cypress nick-named Lady Liberty, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thetwo-way\/2012\/01\/17\/145342304\/one-of-worlds-oldest-cypress-trees-the-senator-burns-in-florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to NPR<\/a>.
