Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. \u00a0It has the largest castle area in the world which is set atop a hill overlooking the city. After arriving on our bus from Dresden via\u00a0euroLines<\/a>, we spent the afternoon wandering around the vast city. \u00a0The architecture and sculptures were striking, and the cultural melting pot of souvenirs, food, and street performers deserved an explanation. \u00a0As I recommended in my\u00a0earlier post, walking tours are the best way to familiarize yourself with a new city (and make some friends!) \u00a0There are many free options in Prague, but we chose Sandeman\u2019s\u00a0New Europe<\/a>\u00a0after a reliable recommendation. Our tour guide was a Dutch man named Tijo, who had fallen in love with the city, the beer, and a Czech woman, causing him to relocate happily to Prague. \u00a0 He first gave us a brief history of the Czech Republic, which gave substantial insight immediately into the sights we had seen the day before, with influences from all of the dominant cultures present in the city from its time as the center of the Holy Roman Empire to the Soviet Union\u2019s Communism just decades ago.<\/div>\n

The tour took us to the Old Town Square first, and was followed by the famous astronomical clock, an impressive example of historic innovation. \u00a0We then visited the iconic Charles Bridge which leads to the Prague Castle and the older part of the city, very much what one would hope to see when visiting a medieval city. \u00a0After, we saw the Old Synagogue in the Old Jewish Town, significant during WWII, as the former Czechoslovakia was the first to be occupied by the Nazis and the last to be liberated.<\/div>\n

I would highly recommend a visit to Prague. \u00a0If you\u2019re traveling through Europe it is not to be overlooked. \u00a0One look at the castle and sip of their famous Pilsner, and you\u2019ll be hooked and planning your next visit!<\/div>\n
