For a frightfully good time with more than a dash of showbiz pizazz consider joining in on one of the few upcoming “haunted” walking tours set inLondon's famous Theatreland. The Official London Theatre's Haunted Theatreland Walking Tour returns this fall with a series walks along the “cobbled streets and gas-lit;back alleys” of London's main theatre district between Covent Garden and St James's for an “atmospheric journey through the darker side of Theatreland's history is punctuated with unsettling tales of betrayal, bereavement and bloody murder.” The tours are recommended as suitable for ages 12 years and up and will feature stories of a ghostly clown, a phantom prompter, spooky superstitions and the legendary Man in Grey.
The tours will be led by London Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein who made her name with her Secret London feature on London talk radio station LBC 97.3 FM. She is the author of the best selling book London Then and Now and holds a BA Honours degree in English Literature and History. Awarded by the Institute of Tourist Guiding, the Blue Badge is the highest guiding qualification in Britain. The comprehensive training is rigourous and many who attempt to achieve a badge fall short. Essentially, the Blue Badge is the equivalent of a PhD for tour guides.

The Haunted Theatreland tours will take place on the following Sundays, leaving at 6pm from a Central London location:  November 3rd and 24th and December 1st and 8th. Each tour will have a maximum of 30 places and will be wheelchair accessible. They will not involve backstage tours of any of the theatres and will go ahead if it rains. On December 8th, a British Sign Language interpreted tour will be accompanied by Stephen Hudson, NRCPD Registered Sign Language Interpreter. The tours cost £9.50 per person (about $16) and are expected to sell out. Payment must be made in advance. If you book three or more places in one booking, you will receive a Theatre Token worth £10 and redeemable for Society of London Theatre productions.
