Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts
As Halloween is right around the corner, it’s time to start talking about all the scary and haunted nooks and crannies around the world. We’ve all probably had some type of experience with a city, building or home that has been known for its supernatural activity. Today, we take on five of the most haunted inns and hotels in America.
17 Hundred 90 Inn, Savannah, Georgia: It’s hard to have a haunted list without Savannah being on it, since the southeastern riverfront town is tabbed by many as the most haunted city in America. It makes sense that one of the most haunted places in Savannah would also be the oldest inn. Strange events frequently take place at the inn and especially room 204, where a guest named Anna Powers is rumored to have thrown herself to her death over a love interest in the 1800s.
Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado: Stanley Hotel is easily the most well-known haunted hotel in the world. Room 217 was the inspiration behind Stephen King’s The Shining. The story goes that children can often be heard playing on the fourth floor, even when there are no children present.
Le Pavilion Hotel, New Orleans, Louisiana: Again, it’s only fitting that Le Pavilion Hotel would be on the list since New Orleans is one of the most haunted cities in the world. A beacon of southern charm in the south, it’s also a place of the spookiest haunts in New Orleans. So much so, that in past years, hotel staff has reached out to paranormal investigators to identify the supernatural activity.
Crescent Hotel, Eureka Springs, Arkansas: One of the quirkiest cities in the south, with no stoplights, but a bustling historic district; everyone always points people to the Crescent Hotel. There are several rooms at the Eureka Springs Hotel that are said to be haunted, one of which is the result of a construction worker who fell to his death.
Hawthorne Hotel, Salem, Massachusetts: Did you really think there would be a list of haunted hotels and not a single one in Salem, Massachusetts? Another one of the spookiest cities in the world, the Hawthorne Hotel is the focal point of where the hunt for the Salem witches took place, which resulted in over 200 deaths during the trials. Many of the witches are said to reside here.
