Airport Travel Tips: Five Simple Little Things That Bring Great Comfort, Flickr: poppacket

Don’t Forget Your Earphones!

As a frequent traveler, I’ve always been more enamored with the simple little things that bring me great joy. So, I’ve learned never to underestimate the power of small creature comforts (they don’t always have to be a big ticket item, like a killer suitcase or laptop). Here are five simple little items that are worthwhile to carry when you travel:
Earphones: Many airplanes charge for headsets these days, so sadly, it’s not always so easy to watch new movies and sitcoms without paying extra, especially on shorter flights. It’s always wise to pack a set of earphones or headsets while you travel so you avoid unnecessary fees. Isn’t it bad enough to pay for checked baggage?
An extra pair of comfortable socks: A good pair of socks can do wonders for a long flight, especially if they soothe or energize. Yes, energize. We’re head over heels in love with the Celliant socks, which uses technology to harness the body’s natural energy through the use of minerals and fibers. The socks that is made up of Celliant technology hugs the feet and increases blood flow and oxygen levels. I would have said all this was hooey but having tried on a pair, I’m completely convinced that a pair of socks can change your state of mind—and give you a much more comfortable flight. There are some socks also recommended by the American Podiatric Medical Association for those with diabetes.
Barrettes: Obviously for women (although men may get a kick out of these too, who knows?), barrettes and bands are indispensable while traveling, especially if you want to pull the hair away from your face. Always pack a few extra because they’re so negligibly light.
Batteries: Good things come in small packages and batteries are one example. There have been too many instances where my life has halted, all because of a simple battery: flashlights are one example. Right now there’s the new Duracell portable USB charger for cell phones, which is a life saver for those who have limited iPhone/ Blackberry battery life.
A pullover/ sweater: Airplanes and airports get very cool and cabin temperatures drop quite dramatically. A good sweater standby is just the ticket for going through the flight comfortably, especially if you want a good night’s sleep.
