Johannesburg is an interesting city. They have nice places such as Sandton, Melrose Arch, the Market Theater, and the Apartheid Museum but then downtown has a lot of abandon buildings and it does not feel safe at all. Cape Town was really nice - it was walkable and you can take the boat to Robben Island which was an amazing and extremely powerful tour. A lot of people do not stay in Johannesburg, but use it as a resting point before heading off either to safari (in Kruger National Park) or to other destinations in South African (Cape Town, Durban) and based on my experience, I see why

A great place to visit but probably not the best to live. Still highly recommendable!
