The national airline carrier of the Republic of Macedonia, Macedonian Airlines (IN) had its base in Skopje. It had scheduled flights between Skopje and Ohrid as well as other European destinations. Launched on January 16, 1994, Macedonian Airlines flew its maiden voyage on June 23, 1994, with a Boeing 737-200 from Skopje to Zürich.
Entering into an agreement with the Government of The Republic of Macedonia, it acquired the status of a national flag carrier for the next 10 years. A private share holding company, Macedonian Airlines had introduced electronic tickets in 2007, made available on the internet. It had a fleet strength of 2 aircrafts that flew across 5 destinations to Austria, Macedonia, Netherlands, Serbia and Switzerland. The airline ceased operations from September 1, 2009.
