With such a huge increase in tourism, airlines want to make travel as easy as possible, especially by leveraging the Internet. Hence, the advent of online check in, the ability to check in online with the airline you’re traveling with before your flight.
This initiative spearheaded by major carriers is to reduce travelers wait time standing on line. With web check-in, passengers can, via the Internet, print out a boarding pass, as well as confirm space on the airline their flying with and select a seat of their choosing.

US AIRWAYS US Airways online check-in allows you to check-in online as early as 24 hours prior to departure and up to 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time, making it one of the most convenient ways to check in.
Online check-in also allows you to check your baggage. You can check your bags at any US Airways skycap for domestic flights only. The same could be done at the airport kiosk line or the US Airways ticket counters for international flights.
For web check-in, all members of your party must check-in at the same time. Reservations are subject to cancellation if you are not checked in and at the departure gate at least 15 minutes prior to departure.
In case you are not checking bags, you can proceed directly to the security checkpoint and then to your departure gate. There is no requirement to check-in at the ticket counter or with a gate agent when you arrive.
Web check-in also allows passengers to book desired seats and upgrade to First Class, of course, using US Airways frequent Flier miles are the first to be considered.
You can log onto Delta.com, from 24 hours, to 30 minutes before a flight within the U.S. , or 60 minutes prior to an international flight and then proceed.
Online check-in requires you to first have a look at the itinerary, i.e., a detailed plan for your flight.
The next step, is submitting your SkyMiles, confirmation, or e-ticket number to access your itinerary. While on this step, you can go ahead and select the number of passengers, seat assignments or pay for any extra baggage. Also you can go ahead and check your upgrade status as well if you submitted a request.
You can now go ahead with printing your boarding passes.
Since you have already checked your baggage online and paid for any extra baggage, all you need to do is, once you are at the airport drop your bags at any curbside check-in or baggage drop location.
If you have no bags to check, you can proceed directly to Security with your printed boarding pass and photo-ID. Once you’ve passed through, you can head right to your departure gate, where you simply wait for boarding to begin.
United Airlines Online check-in for United Airlines requires that you check-in 24 hours prior to departure. For domestic flights, you can check in one-hour before departure and two-hours for international flights.
The online check-in requires you to log-in and select your itinerary.
Once logged in, you can no go ahead with your seat assignment, seat upgrade and checking your baggage. Also any upgrades can be requested at this stage. Any extra baggage fees can also be paid in advance.
You can now print or re-print your boarding pass.
If you have no baggage to check-in, you can go directly to security. Once you pass through, you can head to the gate and wait for boarding to begin.
Like many major airlines, Continental Airlines allows you to check-in 24 hours prior to departure and up to 30-minutes for domestic flights and 45-minutes for international flights.
To begin check-in, you can use your confirmation number, eTicket number or OnePass number and proceed with online check-in.
The number of bags, any extra baggage fees can be paid during this step.
You can go ahead with printing your boarding pass. Continental airlines also offer the option to fax your pass in case you do not have access to a printer.
If you have bags to check, you may do so at an airport eService Center kiosk, or with a Continental ticket counter
representative at least 30-minutes prior to your scheduled departure for domestic flights, and 60-minutes for international flights.
Northwest E-Ticket customers can check in for their flight on nwa.com between 24 hours and 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.
You can enter your last name, departure city and confirmation number, Frequent Flyer Number, or E-Ticket number on the web check-in page and proceed with the confirmation.
The next step requires you to verify your itinerary, change seats, update/change Frequent Flyer number or select “upgrade and travel options”.
The final step requires that you print your boarding pass. Once through security, go straight to the gate for boarding.
Baggage can be checked-in at the curb at most of the airports or also with a Northwest Agent.
